Laptops, Networks & More

Neumont University’s technology infrastructure provides enterprise-class security and availability. We provide all the tools you’ll need to effectively master the skills essential for your career. Our technology infrastructure includes:

  • Laptops: Each student is required to purchase a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop for their use while enrolled. These laptops give our students the mobility and power they need to be successful. Students take their laptops to all classes and use them for in-class practice of materials covered, and problem-based learning assignments throughout the program.  As students move onto Enterprise Projects they will use these machines to build project solutions for Industry Leaders.  And, with access to our Academic Alliance program they will be able to download most Microsoft Software needed to support their learning at little or no cost.
  • Digital Design Lab: Featuring 8 iMac's, a studio quality video camera and lighting package, and chroma-key wall. Students enrolled in our Digital Design courses can work with industry standard materials while learning the concepts of Design and Development for film and video games.
  • Interactive Computing and Robotics Lab: New to the campus, an Interactive Computing and Robotics lab.  This lab provides students with access to the latest technologies in human computer interface design, programming for mobile devices, access to Lego Mindstorm Robots, and more as the program evolves over the coming quarters.
  • Network: Our students use an industrial-strength wireless network that allows them to connect to resources from any location on campus. Our wireless network meets the same standards demanded by major corporations in terms of security and availability.
  • Learning Management System (LMS): We host a Learning Management System that allows students to view lecture notes, assignment instructions, turn in assignments, and view grades. All you need is an internet connection.
  • Workspaces: Project Groups are issued virtual servers as needed to build the solutions as soon as they begin to visualize it. These servers provide them with tools like Visual Studio, Java development tools, SQL Server, IIS, and Apache. In a virtual server environment, they are able to play with these technologies in a “safe” way without worrying about disrupting other systems in the environment. These servers also allow students to collaborate with other team members on a central platform.
  • Development Tools: All students have access to development tools like Visual Studio, Java, WebSphere, and SQL Server. In addition, they have access through our MSDN Academic Alliance to a wide range of Microsoft software and development tools at a discounted price. Students are also provided with a student license to the latest version of Microsoft Windows and Office, so they are using the industry-standard business software tools from day one. We are currently in the process of upgrading student machines to Windows 7, but we do not guarantee you will be running that from your first day of classes.
