TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT:
My work environment is always different since I'm not working in one place all the time. As a consultant of Avanade, I'm constantly on the move. Avanade is a virtual company and everything is done through email and instant messaging. Whatever can't be done by those two forms of communication is handled through a phone call so I'm either working from home or working on the client's site. Besides that, the work environment is kind of laid back but not too laid back because you still deal with directors, chief officers, sometimes even CEO's of companies during projects giving you a wonderful network.
WHAT VALUE HAS YOUR EDUCATION PROVIDED IN YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYMENT?
One thing I wasn't sure about was how well my education would prep me for the real world. At Neumont, I was working with LANDesk during enterprise projects which really helped prove to me that I'm ready for my career. When I started at Avanade, I hit the ground running. Everyone had their expectations saying that, "He's just out of college, he won't be that good." I proved them wrong! And one other thing Neumont helped me out with was giving me even more of that passion for coding which everyone looks for in an employee, especially here at Avanade.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEND NEUMONT?
I was going to attend another college in North Texas before I found out about Neumont. The fact that I could get the exact same degree in half the time with a small classroom size drove me to learning more about Neumont. Then, the facts that you are encouraged to get your certifications during your career at Neumont; Play with all the latest and greatest technologies while attending; And just getting to live somewhere more exotic than Texas for my schooling drove me to choose Neumont.
FAVORITE TEACHERS?
All the teachers at Neumont are awesome and the best at what they do. But by far, my favorite teachers have to be Sam Puich, Aaron Reed, and Rock Oakeson. Sam really knows how to teach to people in a way that's not over their head and Aaron has that comic relief during his teachings that keep you engaged and learning. Rock is probably the most engaging person at Neumont overall. He knows how to interact with all his students and can inspire creativity in all.
FAVORITE CLASSES?
I would have to say my favorite class was the enterprise projects. Nothing can beat getting to go work for a company for 4 hours each day! Besides that, All the C# classes, Algorithms, Music Composition, and Business Fundamentals.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY?
Snyder, TX
Yes. Let me tell you this, it sure did beat living in a cramped dorm room that you would have to move out of each quarter.
