Professional Development Courses

Neumont offers the following professional development courses:

  • Professional Communication – Explore the foundations of solid career communication including resumes, email best practices, interview techniques and more.
  • Professional Portfolio – Develop an electronic, professional portfolio to use for employment purposes. Students will learn how to select, organize, and analyze their work samples to showcase relevant competencies for the purpose of targeting a specific job market.
  • Professional Skills & Ethics - Develop and refine the necessary skills for their academic and professional success including time management, research skills, ethics, professionalism, and integrity in the workplace.
  • Business Fundamentals - A survey of topics like human resources, finance, client relations, organizational structure, business law, and production.

Both courses focus on resume building, interview techniques, salary negotiation, job search techniques, and building effective professional correspondence. They also prepare students for success in their Enterprise Project teams and focus on strengthening communication skills in a professional environment.

Shawn Loutensock our career services manager, says. "I think students genuinely enjoy the courses. It gives them a chance to focus on the future, and take control of their careers." He also states, "It isn't algorithms, but you have to do the work. But come on, you took algorithms so this will be a walk in the park, right?"

Why do we have such a focus on professional development? That is what makes a Neumont graduate elite, a renaissance coder who can move seamlessly from the server room to the board room and communicate with confidence and tact.

In fact, our Industry Partners who attend Career Week tell us that they would like to hire every student they interviewed, but usually our students have more than one offer*, so it can be pretty competitive for employers.
