Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker to Give Keynote Address at Neumont University’s Commencement & Convocation Ceremonies

Salt Lake City, March 20, 2014 -- Neumont University, an accredited institution that grants bachelor’s degrees in computer science and related disciplines, is pleased to announce their commencement ceremony will feature Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker as the university’s keynote speaker.

“We’re proud of our unique role in downtown Salt Lake,” Neumont University’s President, Edward Levine said. “So much of what the Mayor has focused on: education, sustainability and promoting Salt Lake’s talent in the business world is exactly in line with what we’re doing at Neumont. Our students have spent time in the heart of downtown during their education – whether attending classes and living on campus on Main Street or commuting in via TRAX from our additional student housing locations. The Neumont experience is the downtown experience; and it seemed appropriate for our Mayor to play a role in celebrating our partnership with these students, the University and the community at large. We’re honored to have Mayor Becker as our featured speaker at Commencement.”

The ceremony, held Friday March 21, 2 o’clock p.m. at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center will feature another well-known face from downtown. The ceremony’s invocation will be offered by Sterling Poulson, Chief Meteorologist for 2News.

Mayor Becker remarked, “I am looking forward to speaking at Neumont University’s commencement ceremony. Neumont University has beautifully transformed the historic Tribune building which is located next door to our New Performing Arts Center. I believe these two projects will together provide great catalysts for economic development and increased vitality downtown. With Neumont’s chosen location on our historic Main Street, the school has become a welcome neighbor and friend to Salt Lake City. Neumont has an innovative approach to education and with so many Neumont students living and studying downtown, I look forward to seeing the institution continue to be a force for good on Main Street and beyond.”
