Developmental Projects: CS 393 - rolls out an exciting new project
In Spring of 2008, a Neumont student group created the Cyclops Media Remote project in CS 393 Development Projects. The Cyclops Project team consists of:
- Howard Brown - Team Lead
- Dustin Perkins
- Joseph Irizarry
- Ashley Barclay
- John Dao
- Allan Logan
- Robert Martinson
- Faculty Advisors - Jamie King & Mark Ensign
"This project was amazing! Howard came up with the idea that we should build a program that will allow a user to be one place but control their music from another. Then, because of Neumont's flexible project-based learning courses we were really able to take this idea and run with it. It was really exciting to be able to build something that we came up with, not just having to complete a project that had been assigned to us by an instructor"
-- Joe Irizarry, Cohort 12, Class of 2009
Cyclops Media Remote implements the latest technologies from Microsoft including Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Linq. The program allows its users to control their media libraries from any computer with network connectivity.

At many demonstrations around Salt Lake City, Utah, students from the project have discussed the process of creating this project from the ground-up - including the many roadblocks and successes they had along the way. These presentations have given insight into their development experiences using these new Microsoft technologies.
What are Developmental Projects? In Developmental Project courses students work in teams to develop projects with "real world" application, and:
- Experience the various phases of Software Development
- Perform a variety of roles on software development teams
- Strengthen and integrate students' existing skills
- Provide motivation for the acquisition of new skills
Through these projects students gain practical experience developing software using:
- ASP.NET
- Web Services
- Windows Services
- WPF
- WCF
- LINQ
- . . .and more
